HOMEWORK

Hi 4 Leah,

Here is an outline of the homework expectations for Grade 4:

  • Reading for 20 to 30 minutes, 4 times a week (I’m happy for you to read novels, eBooks on your Kindle (or other electronic devices), newspaper articles, magazine articles, and other non-fiction texts). If you’re not sure if what you’re reading is appropriate, please come and talk to me. Make sure you record your reading in your Reading Journal and get mum or dad to sign it. You will need to hand in your Reading Journal (along with your diary) every Monday, so that I can give you feedback on your reading progress and provide you with suggestions to extend your learning, if required.
  • From Week 1 in Term 2, you will have a Maths Word Problem to solve, using the 9 Problem Solving Strategies. More details will be provided in next term.
  • You will be required to learn 15 words based on the grapheme for each week’s spelling. Spelling groups will start in Term 1 Week 3 (after camp).
  • I will also set Mathletics tasks for you to complete throughout the year.

So start using your amazing brains……..and get reading and solving problems!

Leah 🙂

    Hi Leah,
Owen and I have just been over your blog – what a fantastic idea! Now that I know it exists I can get Owen to be an interactive member.

I was just wondering if there was something special that Owen needs to use for his reading journal?

    Thanks
    Anna

      Hi Anna,

It’s always great to have a parent commenting on the blog! Great to hear that you’re finding it useful, too.

For the reading journals at the moment, the kids have an exercise book where they write in either a prediction or a summary. Owen will get a copy of his reading goal tomorrow, plus something similar to what they used last year for recording their reading, which should help him streamline the process of recording information. I’m going to go through it with the kids tomorrow, so this should also make your life easier too, in regards to what is expected from Owen. Let me know if you’ve got any questions after this goes home tomorrow.

      Cheers,

      Leah
